Security Target Crime Hot Spots, Arrest Over 400 More
Coordinated police operations across Kampala and neighbouring districts have led to the arrest of more than 400 suspects, aimed at curbing urban crime, dismantling criminal networks, and restoring public safety.

Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area have intensified coordinated crime prevention operations, arresting over 400 suspects in a sweeping crackdown targeting crime hotspots across the city and neighbouring districts.

The operations, conducted between February 24 and 25, aimed to curb urban crime, dismantle criminal networks, and improve public safety, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Kawala Racheal.

In Wakiso District, Kira Division officers carried out an operation on February 24 at about 8:00pm in Mulawa Trading Centre and Najjera Kamwanyi, arresting 81 suspects.

The largest number of arrests was recorded in Old Kampala, where police operations conducted between 5:00pm and 9:00pm in Kisenyi Zone, Muza Zone, and surrounding areas netted 152 suspects.

Police in Kira Road arrested 49 suspects on February 25 during operations in Universal Kisaasi Sector, Kamwokya, and Kyebando, areas authorities say have experienced rising cases of theft and drug-related crime.

In Nakawa, Jinja Road Division officers arrested 20 suspects at about 11:00pm on February 24 during an operation covering Center Zone, Kaggo Buyinja, and Kinawataka.

Nansana Police arrested 48 suspects at about 12:30am on February 25, while Wakiso Police Division apprehended 23 suspects during an operation conducted in Wakiso Town earlier the same evening.

In the Bulenga area of Wakiso District, operations conducted between 4:00pm and 8:00pm covered Musoke Road, Kawuzi Street, Gogonya, and Kikaaya Katogo, resulting in the arrest of 50 suspects.

Meanwhile, Kajjansi Police Division arrested six suspects during an operation carried out at about 5:00pm in Kilyamuli, Kilumba, and Namulanda Ward in Kajjansi Town Council.

Police said exhibits recovered during the operations included rolls of opium, suspected house-breaking tools, and other implements believed to have been used in criminal activity.

“All suspects are currently in police custody. Cases of possession of opium and public nuisance have been opened,” SP Kawala said, adding that the suspects will be screened and produced before court.

Security officials said the disruptive operations form part of ongoing efforts to restore order and reassure residents amid growing concerns over theft, drug abuse, and public disorder in the metropolitan area.

Police have urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and supporting community crime prevention initiatives.
