The Kigezi police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident saying that clinical officer Hylon Dusingize,27, was immediately alerted and notified her district supervisors.
He added that the police was called in and a report was registered at the Kisoro police station adding that the crime scene was processed and a cut of padlock was recovered as evidence.
โTwo suspects were arrested for questioning, Patrick Namara the security guard and Gadi Habwomuremye,a lab assistant. However, a search of their premises was conducted but it yielded nothing and inquiries into the matter are still on going,โ Maate said.
This incident is not an isolated one. The theft of government drugs is widespread problem in Uganda, with many cases going unreported.
The National Drug Authority has been intensifying operations against the theft of government drugs, recovering millions of shillings worth of stolen medications.
The consequences of these thefts are dire, many Ugandans rely on government health facilities for their medical needs, and the theft of essential drugs puts lives at risk.
As one health expert noted, the theft of these frugs frustrates the governmentโs efforts to provide better health services to the people.
