Police have arrested 19 people suspected to be affiliated to criminal gangs terrorising the people of Arua City.
The group was arrested during an intelligence led operation in the areas of Awindiri hill, Ediofe trading center, Prisons cell Oli and Smash round about following concerns of burglary, break-and -enter robberies, muggings, bag-snatching among others.
According to Josephine Angucia, the regional police spokesperson of West Nile Sub Region, exhibits of opium and breaking implements were recovered during the operation, and are being kept pending investigations.
She says that all the 19 suspects are in custody pending screening and investigations.
Angucia adds that upon completion of investigations, their casefile will be forwarded to the resident state attorney for perusal and legal advice, and upon sanctioning of their casefile, they will be taken to court .
"These operations will continue in order to defeat the operations of criminal gangs and get rid of organised crimes."
