UPC urges caution amid slight decrease in crime cases
The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has called for continued vigilance despite a slight decrease in reported crime cases, as revealed in the Uganda Police Force's (UPF) Annual Crime Report of 2023.
According to a recent report, there has been a 1.5% decrease in registered cases compared to 2022, totalling 228,074 cases.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the party headquarters, Faizo Muzeyi, the Head of Media and Communications for UPC, acknowledged this decline as a noteworthy achievement.
However, he cautioned against complacency, pointing to underreporting influenced by strained relations between the police and some communities.
“Our citizens are hesitant to report cases to authorities due to the poor relationship between the police and some members of the communities, yet it is those reported cases which give the basis and foundation of the UPF Annual Crime Report.,” he said.
Muzeyi stressed the imperative to enhance security measures, advocating for investments in intelligence gathering, community policing, and the restoration of public trust to ensure reliable information sharing. He highlighted the fact that criminals often originate from within communities, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in crime prevention efforts.
Furthermore, Muzeyi highlighted a positive trend in the reduction of domestic violence cases from 17,698 in 2022 to 14,681 in 2023. He underscored the significance of family unity in societal development and urged for community education on issues leading to family disputes, particularly concerning inheritance laws.
Muzeyi also urged parents to provide more than just necessities, emphasizing the pivotal role of love and care in mitigating family breakdowns and the subsequent prevalence of domestic violence, often exacerbated by substance abuse.
In a solemn gesture, UPC extended condolences to the Kabaka of Buganda and the Ndiga Clan for the tragic murder of Eng. Lwomwa Daniel Bbosa by motorbike assailants in Lungujja on Sunday.
Muzeyi emphasized the importance of preserving evidence for prosecution and delving into the root causes of such heinous crimes.
Looking ahead, Muzeyi announced plans for the nomination of their candidate, Sarah Aguti Nyangkori, for the Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament on March 11th – 12th, 2024.
He urged all party members and the entire electorate to verify their electoral particulars during the ongoing display of the Voters Register at polling stations.
Muzeyi emphasized the paramount importance of this activity in ensuring accurate voter details and polling station information for the forthcoming Dokolo by-elections.
