Speaking to the 'Abasakaate' during her visit to Janan Secondary School in Bombo, where the 'Kisakaate' training is taking place, the Nnaabagereka emphasized the link between drug abuse and the rise in domestic violence and family breakdowns.

The Nnaabagereka of Buganda, Sylivia Nagginda, has encouraged children to steer clear of drugs, warning that early substance use contributes significantly to mental illness and social issues among the youth.

Speaking to the 'Abasakaate' during her visit to Janan Secondary School in Bombo, where the 'Kisakaate' training is taking place, the Nnaabagereka emphasized the link between drug abuse and the rise in domestic violence and family breakdowns.

“We have reports of groups influencing young people to start using drugs without revealing the devastating consequences of addiction,” she noted.

The two-week Kisakaate programme, themed Embracing Culture with Technology, has brought together over 500 children from various schools.

Participants have showcased innovations, engaged in news presentations, and taken part in debates on how to combat drug abuse at school and home.

Nnaabagereka urged the youth to resist negative influences and remain focused on their goals.

“We are guiding you because there are individuals with selfish motives who seek to mislead the young generation,” she said.

She also highlighted the importance of activities at Kisakaate in shaping a brighter future for the youth, particularly by integrating technology and promoting innovation.

“We want to prepare you for a future where technology is central, and we encourage you to embrace it,” she added.

The Nnaabagereka expressed gratitude to the program’s sponsors, including MTN Uganda and the National Drug Authority (NDA), for their support in empowering children across Uganda, regardless of tribe or culture.

Fred Kalungi from the NDA educated the Abasakaate on identifying drug addicts, assisting in their rehabilitation, and preventing substance abuse.

“The NDA will continue collaborating with the Nnaabagereka Development Foundation to raise awareness and empower teens to say no to drugs,” he said.

Janan Schools Director, Michael Kironde, highlighted this year’s focus on nurturing talents. “We encourage parents to support their children’s talents, as these can pave the way for their success,” he stated.

The Kisakaate program continues to inspire young participants, blending cultural preservation with modern technology and equipping them with tools to lead meaningful, drug-free lives.
