With only a week left to the national population census, locals in Mubende have said they dont have information regarding the forthcoming exercise.

"I heard of the census way back but I don't know it's main objectives. May be they want to know the rate AT which Ugandans are giving birth then after impose taxes on them basing on the number of children," Ronald Ayesiga, a resident in Mubende municipality said.

Lawrence Akansimiira , a bodaboda rider  shares similar sentiments, saying he only hears about the census but doesnt know what it is all about

"I only heard rumours from colleagues but personally I don't know the dates of census and what it entails meaning. Our leaders are also silent about it," he said.

Geoffrey Ssemwogerere advised  government to give them money so they can stay home to be counted.

"No one  can stay  home to wait for census because we have loans to service. Unless the government compensate our time, you cant convince us to stay home to be counted. I would suggest the find us at our places of work," Ssemwogerere said.

Surprisingly, leaders are also ignorant about the process.

Vincent Tumusiime Kissanja a district Councillor representing Kassambya Town council said that he has never attended any meeting about census.

"It is not only our voters without the census knowledge but even we the leaders we were left out in this exercise," he said.

He however advised  government to facilitate local leaders in the remaining days to enable them disseminate the information about Census.

" Let the govt give us transport and allowances to reach out our areas and sensitise them about census. Personally I have five parishes which means I can use only five days to mobilise my people."

Samuel Mayanja, the councilor representing Mubende east division blamed the district for not making deliberate efforts to give information about the census to both leaders and the entire population.

He said this would enable them prepare for the census exercise.

Mubende district is comprised of 19 sub counties with an estimate of 620,000 people.
