Kampala Central Division mayoral hopeful Salim Uhuru has said he is confident of winning the race after the conclusion of voting, citing his grassroots campaign strategy and voter engagement across the division.
Speaking after the polls, Uhuru thanked Ugandans for turning up to vote, saying the peaceful conduct of the elections reflected the country’s commitment to democratic principles.
“I thank all Ugandans for participating in the elections where they chose leaders of their choice,” Uhuru said.
“I am confident I will win the Kampala Central mayoral race because I have been campaigning door to door, and by next week Tuesday I will be declared.”
Uhuru emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the electoral process, noting that candidates have a responsibility to safeguard declaration of results forms from polling stations.
“It is any candidate’s mandate to keep and protect all DR forms from all polling stations,” he said, underscoring the role of vigilance in maintaining the integrity of elections.
While projecting confidence, Uhuru said he would respect the final outcome once results are officially announced, even if they do not favour him.
“I won’t change any results and I will accept if I am defeated,” he said. “I don’t believe in loss and I aim at winning, though I will respect the people’s choice.”
The Kampala Central Division mayoral contest is among the closely watched races in the capital, with candidates campaigning heavily on issues of service delivery, governance, and accountability.
Official results for the Kampala Central Division mayoral election are expected to be announced next week, following voting held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
