Mpigi District Woman Member of Parliament Teddy Nambooze has intensified her grassroots campaign in Kiringente Sub-county as she seeks re-election in the 2026 general elections.
Nambooze pitched camp in Kiringente as part of her ongoing consultative and vote-hunting drive aimed at renewing her parliamentary mandate.
She was received by residents amid drumming and fanfare, accompanied by several National Unity Platform (NUP) candidates contesting for various councillorship positions in the area.
Addressing residents, Nambooze urged voters to re-elect her and support NUP candidates across all levels, arguing that this would secure leaders committed to change, democracy, unity, accountability, and improved livelihoods for Mpigi District.
“I thank the people of Kiringente for the trust and votes you gave me in the 2021 elections, which enabled me to become your Woman MP,” Nambooze said.
“Although we have faced challenges and sometimes lacked support, we have done our best to ensure that Mpigi benefits wherever possible.”
She highlighted improvements in education during her tenure, noting that when she assumed office, many girls in Mpigi were out of school or dropping out without hope for the future.
“When I came into office, many girls in Mpigi were not studying. Some were repeatedly dropping out of school and had no direction. After you elected me, things changed. Some of these girls are now in Senior Four, Senior Six, and others have completed university,” she said.
The legislator also cited interventions in maternal health and skills development, including the provision of equipment to improve services at health facilities and the establishment of a skilling centre for girls who dropped out of school.
She said these initiatives were aimed at improving livelihoods and empowering vulnerable groups.
“I ask you to vote for leaders who have a proven record of service,” Nambooze told residents. “Look at what we have done where NUP has leadership in Mpigi. Our actions speak for themselves.”
She urged voters to back NUP candidates at all levels, including the presidency under party leader Robert Kyagulanyi.
Teddy Nambooze is among eight candidates cleared to contest for the Mpigi District Woman MP seat, with the main contest expected to be between her and National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Harriet Mbabazi.
