NUP Leaders Tell Kawempe 'No Place for NRM Here'

National Unity Platform leaders in Kawempe have stepped up mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2026 general elections, rallying residents to stand firmly behind the party and reject any attempts by the ruling NRM to gain ground in the area.

The calls were made during a community meeting where leaders mapped out their strategy for what they described as a decisive showdown.

Speakers repeatedly told residents that Kawempe fully identifies with NUP and should not allow its political dominance to be diluted.

“Kawempe is for NUP, and we cannot allow any NRM candidate to break through,” one leader said, drawing loud approval from the crowd.

Kawempe Mayor Serunjogi Emmanuel Owedembe said Bwaise continues to face serious development challenges, arguing that the area needs leaders committed to meaningful change.

“Our people continue to suffer with health challenges and underdevelopment. We need leaders who are committed to real change,” Serunjogi said.

Other leaders urged residents to remain vigilant and resist any attempts at manipulation during the election period.

“Do not allow anyone to confuse you. Vote for the umbrella and protect your voice,” one speaker told attendees.

Nyanzi Fred Sentamu, who is contesting for MP Kawempe South, called on residents to use what he described as a “protest vote” to express discontent with the current state of service delivery.

“Let’s vote all NUP leaders. That is the strongest protest we can register,” Nyanzi said.

With the campaign season approaching, NUP leaders say maintaining unity in Kawempe will be critical to keeping the constituency under firm opposition control.
