President Museveni has commended Ugandan long-distance running star Joshua Cheptegei for investing his earnings from athletics into local development, highlighting it as a model for productive land use and job creation.

Speaking during a campaign rally in Kapchorwa in the Sebei region, Museveni said he was pleased to tour Cheptegei’s new hotel, which the athlete is constructing in his home district.

“I congratulate and thank Joshua Cheptegei for not squandering his earnings from his talent and hard work,” Museveni said.

“He is putting up a hotel in Kapchorwa, which I was glad to tour between rallies in the Sebei region.”

The President noted that Cheptegei’s initiative demonstrates how land can be used productively to create jobs and income, particularly in areas away from highlands prone to landslides.

“It is exactly what I was talking about earlier, using the lowlands for investment and wealth creation,” Museveni added.

Cheptegei’s investment is expected to generate employment opportunities for locals and promote tourism in Kapchorwa, further contributing to economic development in the region.
