National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has taken to his X handle to accuse the Electoral Commission (EC) of partisanship after it rejected hundreds of signatures backing his presidential nomination.
In a Friday post, Kyagulanyi said the party had submitted “more than enough” signatures from across the country, but the EC is now claiming NUP fell short in several districts.
He contrasted this with the Commission’s position on President Museveni, whose signatures were reportedly accepted without issue.
Kyagulanyi alleged that Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), District Internal Security Officers (DISOs), and Gombolola Internal Security Officers (GISOs) had been intimidating citizens who endorsed him.
He added that when the EC contacted some of these voters, they denied signing out of fear, leading to their removal from the list.
“Shamelessly, GISOs, DISOs, RDCs, etc. have been reaching out to all those who signed for us, intimidating them and threatening them. Then the EC says it called them and they denied having signed for us and therefore removed them from the list. Criminals!” Kyagulanyi posted.
With his nomination scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the NUP leader has rallied registered voters from more than 35 districts, including Gulu City, Bushenyi, Ntungamo, Yumbe, Soroti, and Arua to urgently resubmit their signatures.
He directed them to report to the party headquarters at Makerere-Kavule on Saturday between 8am and 11am.
Kyagulanyi said the fresh collection exercise was necessary to counter what he described as a “deliberate attempt to frustrate the opposition.”
The development adds to growing tensions in the run-up to the 2026 elections, with NUP repeatedly accusing the EC and state institutions of bias.
