Speaking to NBS TV on Tuesday morning, Solomon Silwany (Bukooli County Central MP) expressed that Among and Tayebwa have had a good working relationship and are the most preferred candidates to further unity and continuity of the party.
Indeed, Anita Among has expressed interest in the position of the Speaker while Thomas Tayebwa who was initially expected to take up the speaker position has withdrawn his interest.
According to the same sources, Among will be the speaker while Tayebwa is favoured to become her deputy.
Tayebwa has not said he will not contest for the position of Deputy Speaker, however, sources closer to him indicate that he will wait until Among is elevated before he officially expresses his interest to be deputy.
It should be noted that Kitgum Woman MP Lilian Aber has already expressed interest in the position of the Deputy Speaker
"As we mourn our brother Jacob Oulanyah, we strive to maintain the standard in the region, replicate what he has done. To Acholi MP's (APG) who have endorsed me for the D/S position. I respect the decision as I wait for the NRM CEC decision. We also hope, the region is considered,” she noted in a tweet.
The MPs from the Northern Region have been campaigning for a regional card consideration, asking that the position return to Northern Uganda or there is a consideration in which one of the positions is handed back to the North.
It is quite difficult to ascertain how the party will circumvent the Northern question.
