Muslim conflicts caused by greed for material pleasures, says Mubaje

The Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has said that the perennial Muslim conflicts are not religious but rather based on worldly and material pleasures.

Mubaje made the remarks as he sworn in the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Constitution review commission at a function held at Old Kampala Mosque.

Mubaje revealed that the current UMSC constitution was promulgated in 1986.

"Before being elected the Mufti in the year 2000, I was Kadhi Bugisu Muslim district for ten years and for twenty-one years in the Mufti’s Office. So, over these years we have gained vast experience that led us to know its strength, weakness, and challenges," said Mubaje.

Sheikh Obeid Kamulegeya advised that the proposed constitution shouldn’t be left entirely in the hands of the current UMSC leadership but be inclusive of all Muslims.

He noted that qualified sheikhs need to be incorporated in order to produce a final document that contains Islamic values and principles, a proposal the Mufti accepted.

Shortly, before the swearing-in of the members of the constitutional review commission, Mubaje advised them to work as a team with diligence, commitment, and above all passion to deliver a pro- Muslim Constitution.

The committee members are: Ass. Prof Edris Serugo Kasenene, Dr. Kibwana Adam,Hassan Baylor, Haj Mudathir Doka,Dr. Zaid Swaleh Lubanga Sheikh Abubakar Yusuf Musoke,Sheikh Yusuf Isah Byekwaso,Haj Faraj Isah Salim ,Haj Tezikuba Mutwalib Sajjabi ,Haj Yusuf Mayanja among others.
