Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has vowed to elevate the image of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) during his tenure as the deputy president in charge of the Central region.
Lukwago was on Monday sworn in as the new FDC deputy president in charge of the Central, replacing Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo who was appointed by Museveni as the Minister of State for ICT.
Speaking shortly after his swearing-in at the party offices in Najjanakumbi, Lukwago thanked the party for the tole they have entrusted him with and pledged to ‘leave his mark.’
“I promise to serve to the best of my abilities and capacity, I treasure the mission and vision of the party. I respect all the members who have put the party where it is,” Lukwago said.
Adding, “I promise to make my humble contribution to elevate this party.”
Lukwago said that the principles of FDC will be his guiding tool and that he has confidence that he will be able to achieve a lot with FDC.
The Lord Mayor joined FDC during the run-up to the recently held elections in July 2020 from DP following disagreements.
FDC party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat said that Lukwago’s appointment gives the party a fresh start as they are now complete.
“We are now complete. We are going to hit the ground running. We are a party founded on revolutionary ideas, people thought FDC was going to die,” Amuriat said.
Amuriat thanked Lukwago for accepting the appointment and said that they have huge confidence that he was the man they needed to take over, following a split with some of their senior members in the aftermath of the 2021 elections.
In other appointments, FDC also unveiled Anne Adeke, who is the Soroti District Woman MP as their deputy president in charge of the Eastern Region.
Speaking about her appointment, Amuriat said that people who thought that FDC is a party for old people should now change their mindset.
“Today we have the youngest ever Deputy President in the history of the party, Hon. Anna Adeke. We are not a party of only old people like some of you think,” Amuriat said.
Amuriat said that the party is in the advanced stages of developing a strategic plan for 2021 to 2026 that is going to guide their work as FDC
