UPC cautions government on hosting Afghan refugees
The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has urged the government to thoroughly investigate and disarm the Afghan refugees that are reported to be on the way to Uganda lest the country will become a hub for terrorists.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Uganda will receive over 2000 refugees from Afghanistan following the political unrest in their home country.

In a statement ,the UPC head of media and communication, Faizo Muzeyi urged the office of the Prime Minister, department of refugees to critically analyse the security aspects of hosting these refugees
"This is not only related to unrest but also the spread of diseases like Covid-19, which can easily compromise our systems put in place since these refugees will be interacting with people in the host communities. Let us put the safety of Ugandans first," said Muzeyi.
He said that Parliament should also be consulted on this decision since the refugee camps are situated in areas that are represented by members of parliament.
UPC argued that as much as it is a humanitarian act to host these refugees, the host communities must equally benefit from the services offered to these refugees.
"In most cases the host communities are ignored, and yet they have needs like medical care which are readily available to the refugees," said Muzeyi.
The party also congratulated Hichilema Hakainde upon his victory as President elect of Zambia in the just concluded general elections.
