Bobi Wine submits 33,000 signatures ahead of presidential nomination
National Unity Platform principal and presidential hopeful, Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine has submitted 33,000 signatures to the Electoral Commission ahead of his presidential nomination.
Last week, a joint military and police operation raided the NUP headquarters and confiscated among other campaign material red berets, the party's most recognized symbol as security forces claimed that these are gazetted items for the army.

Kyagulanyi reported after the raid that security had also seized several of his presidential nomination forms which included at least seven million signatures that were endorsing his presidential bid.

NUP party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi told the press on Wednesday that they had activated their mobilizers country wide to start collecting new signatures as they demand for the reason behind confiscating their files.
In a tweet on his verified Twitter account, Kyagulanyi has now announced that he has managed to collect 33,000 signatures in two days in order to beat the Electoral Commission deadline and that NUP has fully submitted them.
"THANK YOU all Ugandans who responded to our call for fresh signatures after the military & police raided our office & took the millions of signatures we had collected for 2 months. Yesterday, we submitted 33,000 signatures from 109 districts most of which were collected in 2 days," Kyagulanyi announced.

According to the Presidential Elections Act 2005, a candidate requires at least 9800 signatures from 98 districts in order to compete for Presidency.
According to the Electoral Commission guidelines, presidential candidates will be nominated on November 2, 2020.
