Museveni asks Covid-19 task force to review opening of airport, bars, and social events

President Museveni has asked the National Task Force on COVID-19 to review the opening of the entertainment industry and a number of other activities as he prepares for his address.

The task force that includes ministers and scientists has held a series of meetings with Museveni at State House Entebbe.

According to sources inside the meeting, a number of issues Museveni has asked that be reviewed include; weekly markets, tourism sector and the airport.

The president said he would love to see operations resume at Entebbe airport however, the team from Civil Aviation Authority and Uganda Airlines continues to hold out, claiming there is no money to enforce SOPs.

“The president’s address will come shortly after the different reports on these sectors,” the source told Nile Post.

According to the team, nightclubs and bars will for the first time come up for discussion with the possibility of finding a better way to let them operate.

Also expected for opening is schools but candidate classes will be given priority as well as science students in nursing schools and paramedic institutions.

The Minister of Information, Judith Nabakooba also confirmed that Museveni had tasked the team to come up with a proper plan to the opening of the different sectors.

“H.E President Kaguta Museveni has instructed the National Task Force team on #COVID19 to review the possibility of a phased reopening of schools starting with candidate classes and clinical medical students,” Nabakooba said.

“The Task force has also been tasked to review the status of other remaining sectors e.g. churches, weekly markets, Tourism sector & Entebbe international airport. The review will also include the status of the entertainment industry e.g. bars, cinemas, nightclubs and sports events,” Nabakooba said.
