Timothy Mugerwa, an environmental activist has withdrawn his Presidential bid despite getting nominated and being cleared by the Electoral Commission.
Mugerwa was among the over 50 people eyeing incumbent Yoweri Museveni’s seat but says after consultation with different stakeholders, he decided to abandon the race and rally behind National Unity Platform’s Robert Kuyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.
According to him (Mugerwa), the move to support Bobi Wine will strengthen the forces of change.
“I abandoned the race for Bobi Wine. I had already consulted in over 80 districts and collected signatures. Now I have already installed a committee to mobilise for Bobi Wine,” he said.
Mugerwa’s exit leaves the race with around 49 people, with competition pitying Bobi Wine against incumbent Museveni following the withdrawal of four-time contender Dr Kizza Besigye.
The environmental activist now seeks to unseat Kalungu West County MP Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu.
