The police has temporarily closed its headquarters at Naguru to the public after one of its officers tested positive for Covid-19,the force's spokesperson Fred Enanga announced on Monday

Enanga’s announcement comes after AIGP Asan Kasingye tested positive for the virus last week.

Speaking to the media, Enanga said the headquarters will be out of bounds to allow for disinfection of the premises.

The police also directed all the officers and staff at the police headquarters to undergo COVID-19 tests.

"Police headquarters is temporarily closed to members of the public and also the staff including the national command centre,"he said.

Enanga said this will allow for disinfection of all offices adding that all staff at the headquarters and Jinja are undergoing testing for Covid-19 as one of the measures to establish the extent of exposure.

He said the National headquarters and the National Command Centre will resume operations immediately after the disinfection and fumigation.

The force has been carrying out random testing of officers and Enanga said the exercise would continue.

So far Uganda has recorded 2,263 cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak was first reported in March
