Allan Okello wins 2019 FUFA player of the year award

KCCA FC exciting youngster, Allan Okello was on Saturday night crowned the 2019 player of the year in the Airtel FUFA awards.

At a glamorous ceremony held at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Okello beat fellow KCCA FC player, Mustafa Kizza but also Proline youngster and playmaker, Bright Anukani to be crowned the man who turned things around in the football year 2019 in Uganda.

“I was on the podium last year and came second, but it’s great that I win it this year,” the youngster said.

“I want to thank my coach Mike Mutebi for giving me the opportunity and always pushing me to perform at my best but I also want to thank Abdallah Mubiru for spotting my talent at Kibuli.”

The lad who last year came second to eventual winner, Moses Waiswa also extended thanks to fellow finalists, Mustafa Kizza and Bright Anukani for putting up a good fight that he eventually won.

Okello guided KCCA FC to their 13th Uganda Premier League title early this year but also won the FUFA Super Cup.

KCCA FC also won the CECAFA Kagame Cup for the second time in 41 years, courtesy of Okello during finals played in Kigali in July.

The youngster was also part of the Cranes team that qualified for the 2020 Championship of African Nations (CHAN).

In the women’s category, Juliet Nalukenge who plays for Kawempe Muslim was awarded the Female player of the year after guiding her team to win both the national and East Africa Secondary Schools’ championship.

Nalukenge also captained Uganda to winning the COSAFA U17 Championship and emerging as the tournament top scorer with 18 goals and during the CECAFA Women’s Challenge Cup; she was Uganda’s top scorer with 5 goals.

She has scored 53 goals for school, club and country in 2019.

Both winners walked away with one million shillings each, trophies, medals and brand new vehicles, courtesy of sponsors Airtel and orgainsers FUFA.
