Modern Coast buses to be impounded after company licence is suspended 

The National Transport and Safety Authority of Kenya has suspended the licence for bus company, Modern Coast, the Nile Post has learnt.

In a statement by the NTSA Director General, George Njao, they have been monitoring the company’s operations after reports of near-fatal crashes and at last, decided to suspend the company’s licence until further notice.

“Following the early Thursday morning crash involving two of their buses, the authority has with immediate effect suspended the Company's operator's licence and initiated a thorough investigation into its safety standards and operations,”Njao said.

“The Company's access to the NTSA portal has been deactivated to limit any activities on their 88 vehicles, as the investigation continues.”

According to the statement, the Kenyan national police has also been advised to impound any of their vehicles from operating contrary to this suspension.

“We take this opportunity to condole with all those who lost their loved ones through this tragic crash and pray quick recovery for the injured.”

On Thursday, to buses belonging to Modern Coast company collided at Salama area along the Nairobi- Mombasa highway leaving at least seven people dead, whereas a dozen of others were left nursing injuries from the accident.

The Kenyan company operates across several East African countries including Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda.
