Budaka county political hopeful's campaign agent killed, body dumped in swamp

Police in Budaka Central Police Station on Tuesday evening retrieved the body of a man dumped at Nawoja swamp in Budaka town council, Budaka district.

This swamp separates Nawoja and Nankone zone and it’s mainly where rice and yams are grown.

The body was found dumped in the water channel just 200 metres from the road that connects to Namengo Catholic Parish and Namengo ward.

According to Vabekuno Moses the deputy CIID Budaka, police was informed by Anthony Gawaya who had gone to weed his rice in the afternoon.

Vabekuno identified the deceased as Job Othieno (65), a resident of Nawoja cell in Budaka town council.

He said that the deceased has been a caretaker at the home John Musedde, a lawyer and politician who contested for the Budaka constituency Member of Parliament seat in 2016. Mussede is a renown lawyer with a firm Musedde and Company Advocates.

Vabekuno explained that preliminary investigations indicate the deceased was assaulted with a blunt object. He said, ‘’We found blood oozing from the deceased's forehead, an indication that he was hit by a blunt object.’’

No arrests have been made so far.

The body is currently lying at Budaka health centre four mortuary pending an autopsy.

When contacted on Tuesday evening, Musedde said he had been traumatized by the information and could not make a comment other than acknowledging that he received the unfortunate news.

He described Othieno as a trusted household employee who had worked for him close to 10 years and helped even in his political campaigns.

He said he would travel from Kampala on Wednesday to personally attend to the matter.

Budaka town council mayor Rogers Mukose confirmed the discovery of the body and blamed the murder on security gaps.

Mukose posited that criminals know that police in the area is ill-equipped with one patrol vehicle that cannot cover the entire area.

He said police had tried to mobilize the community to engage in community policing but those who volunteered soon abandoned the call because there was no pay.

This incident comes barely 4 days after a boda boda cyclist was reportedly waylaid and hit using a hammer just few metres from Bugwere Bible Monument at Macholi ward on Budaka –Iki Iki road and his motorcycle taken.
