MTN donates refrigerator to Mbale blood bank

Mbale Regional blood bank has got a new advanced blood storage refrigerator.

The facility was donated by MTN to boost the blood storage capacity which has been a challenge at the regional blood bank especially during peak blood collection periods.

The establishment serves 52 health facilities across its catchment area.

Mbale regional blood bank collects over 3000 units of blood monthly, against a storage capacity of 1800 units.

Authorities have to look elsewhere for space to store the excess.

According to the director of the blood bank, this jeopardises their control over storage conditions which is key in blood preservation.

Yet following the donation of a state of the art refrigerator by MTN Uganda, this could be history.

The multi million refrigerator was delivered to the facility by the company's regional business manager, Isaiah Semamuli.

It is expected to boost the storage capacity of the blood bank by 2700 units of blood.

With support from government, the regional blood transfusion services establishment is stocked with other automated state of the art equipment for grouping, screening and labelling blood.
