Bobi Wine's People Power launches student's movement

People Power, a pressure group led by Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine unveiled the students' movement which will focus on mobilisation and recruitment of students in institutions of higher learning.

More than 700 students leaders drawn from 247 public and private institutions of higher learning across the country attended the launch.

Addressing the media at Magere in Wakiso district, Kyagulanyi said the platform is aimed at mobilising students at all levels of education to join and own the struggle that will dislodge the President Museveni from power.

"When I am talking to students, I am talking to a very special wing of this revolution unlike informal people, unlike the business community,"he said.

He said the students and the youth have historically been a pivot in every revolution across the world therefore they should not be left out of the struggle.

Kyagulanyi also cautioned young people to be very vigilant and aware of a rough and hostile journey ahead of them noting that change can not come peacefully without challenges.

He said the formation of students' movement will help to transmit the message of change to their respective communities given the fact that many citizens strongly believe in students who are seen as intellectuals and future leaders.

"What we expect from you friends is not just to follow us but to lead us as well. Each of you is a leader. This is not going to be politics as usual because it is not politics as usual,"he said.

Bobi Wine revealed that he was moved by the student’s spirit showcased during their protests against oppressive policies for years in Uganda.

Roy Ssemboga, a former Makerere University guild president who heads education institutions in the People Power said:"The revolution of ours is not like an apple that one's ripe fall off. For us young men we are going for the apple wherever it is, we are going to take it not in pieces but taking the entire apple."

He said that students have been called by destiny therefore they should be ready all the time to take up their roles.
