Minister: Government should allocate more money to universities to avert strikes
The state minister for Higher Education John Chrysostom Muyingo has urged the government to allocate more money to all the higher institutions so that these universities are able to meet all their expenses than increasing tuition.
He made the remarks when the National Council for Higher Education was launching the new report on performance of the higher institutions that took place in Kampala.

Muyingo attributed the ongoing strikes at Makerere University to inadequate funds allocated to all the higher institutions in Uganda.
He said the money given to the universities cannot meet all the expenses hence there is need for an increment.
He suggested that in order to reduce strikes in public universities, government should urgently look into the money allocated to those institutions.
“You can see because of the little money given to these universities has caused all these chaos as you can see in makerere ,students and the management should sit and see how best the situation can be addressed," he said.
He blamed the students for staging the strike after an agreement that was made in 2017 with the student leadership regarding 15% increment policy.
