Mbarara: Police launch operation to kick out crime

Security

Police in Mbarara has launched an operation codenamed Fagiya Wukyafu (Sweep out the dirt) aimed at combing the district and ridding it of criminality through the use of intelligence.

This according to the security team was prompted by the increasing wave of crime and reported pockets of criminal groups terrorising the area.

From burglary to pickpockets, kidnaps and murders the operation has focused in the urban centres where crime rate is high. But the growing theft of livestock has also become a threat in the rural settings.

The operation is expected to continue for some time since the peak of crime is anticipated in the festive season which is fast approaching.

According to the Rwizi region police spokesperson, Samson Kasasira, arrests have already been made and interrogation of those arrested is already on.

Kasasira said they have confiscated a number of electronic items and phones during the operation.

He called upon people who have lost phones or any electronic item to come and identify their items with evidence. This will help the police to pin the thieves.
