French ambassador salutes Total as fuel company opens state of the art service station

The French Ambassador to Uganda, Jules Armand Aniamboussou has saluted Total for helping in bridging the unemployment gap in Uganda .

Speaking during the grand opening of the company’s state of the art service state along Acacia Avenue in Kamwokya on Friday, Aniamboussou said unemployment is one of the challenges faced worldwide but noted that Total has tried to address it.

“I am happy that Total has marked its footmarks and is one of the key players in fuel in Uganda since 1955. With over 200 people they (Total Uganda) employ directly and 4000 people indirectly, the company has created employment opportunities to Ugandans,” the French Ambassador said.

The Total Uganda Managing Director, Obi Imemba said the new facility is part of the company’s efforts to provide an exciting experience in line with their promise to customers.

“We are conscious of the fact that our customer expectations are changing along with their relationship with energy. We are therefore aligning our products and service offerings to provide them with solutions that are more innovative, convenient and fit for purpose,”Imemba said.

He noted that the company has integrated new technologies especially in regards to the digital world citing the Total fuel card that allows customers control their purchases as a planning tool.

In 2017, Total completed a Shs1.4 trillion acquisition of the Gulf Africa Petroleum Corporation's (GAPCO) assets in the East Africa region to give the French company a 28% market share in Uganda and about 36% market dominance in the region.

The company then embarked on the process of rebranding and the Acacia Avenue station is among those taken over from GAPCO.

Commenting on the same, the Total Uganda Managing Director described the feat as a big milestone in their journey in the country.

Total Uganda at the same function also unveiled a state of the art laboratory to test fuels and the country’s first automated car wash where cars can be cleaned both in the interior and exterior in less than 20 minutes according to officials.

Peter Kitimbo, the field supervisor of fuel marking at UNBS said fuel adulteration has dropped to one percent, noting that Total has been part of the efforts to ensure this feat.

“We appreciate your efforts in regards ensuring quality fuels. We(UNBS) put in place standards and we enforce them but it is good to know that Total Uganda has put in place mechanism for self -regulation,”Kitimbo said.

The newly opened facility brings the number of service stations owned by Total Uganda throughout the country to 180.
