Al Ahly sack coach after defeat to Desabre’s Pyramids FC

Egyptian giants Al Ahly Sports Club have sacked their head coach, Martin Lasarte following the team’s deaf to Sebastien Desabre’s Pyramids FC on Saturday.

Al Ahly was knocked out of the Egypt Cup on Saturday, thanks to an Eric Traory goal off a Uganda international Abdu Lumala assist on his debut for Pyramids coached by former Cranes tactician, Sebastien Desabre.

However, on Sunday, the most successful African club with 8 Caf Champions league titles were incensed by the defeat to Pyramids and subsequently sacked their head coach.

According to the BBC, Lasarte’s future was discussed at a meeting on Sunday afternoon as part of a review of the season.

Ahly thanked the Uruguayan for his time at the club and said his assistant Mohamed Youssef would take charge of the team until a "foreign technical director" is recruited.

Lasarte’s sacking came on the heels of winning this year’s Egyptian Premier League title with a game to spare.

The Uruguayan was only appointed head coach at Al Ahly in January 2019 to replace Frenchman Patrice Carteron.

Carteron had also been sacked after spending only five months on the job when he lost to Emirati side Al Wasl in the Arab Club Champions Cup.

Al Ahly had also surrendered their 3-1 first-leg lead to lose the Caf Champions League final to Esperance on a 4-3 scoreline triggering Carteron’s sacking.
