Muntu condemns Bobi Wine's imprisonment

Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu, the President of the newly registered political party; Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) has condemned the continued intimidation and harassment of opposition political leaders, saying this derails democratic processes and rule of law in the country.

He said the incarceration of Kyadondo East Legislature, Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine at Luzira Prison is one such example of continued persecution of opposition voices by Government of the day.

He made the remarks at a press conference he convened on Tuesday, at their political party head office, in Bukoto, a Kampala suburb, to announce the launch of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) which will take place on May 22 at Kampala Serena Hotel.

"The continual police brutality against opposition members and raiding of media houses, are acts we in Alliance for National Transformation condemn strongly", he said.

He said their new political party is committed to bring on board ideas from all political parties, to realize a positive political change and guarantee rule of law in Uganda. "Peace is not absence of war but presence of justice”, he added.

Alice Alaso, the former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General and strong ally of Muntu said registration of members will commence as soon as their party is launched.

“What we have been dong in the last couple of months, is to carry out nationwide sensitisation of our new political party agenda. We have registered an overwhelming number of supporters but the actual figures of registered members shall be made known after the launch of the party”, she said.
