CHAMPIONS: KCCA FC draw with Ndejje to win 13th Uganda Premier League title

Going into the game, Mike Mutebi’s boys wanted to earn only a point to be seven clear of second placed and Kitende based Vipers Sports Club and declared champions with two games left and this is what happened on Wednesday evening.

The hosts, Ndejje University looked to be threatening to spoil the Kasasiro boys’ party when they took the lead through Anwar Ntege at the Arena of Visions in Bombo as early as the 16th minute.

Ndejje’s hunger for three points could be understood because they were fighting for the lifeline in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

However, for KCCA FC, only one thing counted- a point off the hosts and be declared this year’s champions.

Saddam Juma was the hero of the day for the visitors when he cancelled Ndejje’s lead in the 61st minute to throw KCCA FC fans into frenzy.

Celebrations had just begun for the Kasasiro boys known for their yellow attire but had in an unprecedented move put on a green jersey for their game again Ndejje.

By the time the final whistle was blown, the players joined the fans in merry making for winning their 13th title.

However, for tactician Mike Mutebi, the main celebrations will come on the last day when they play Maroons.

“When we play the last match is when we will have won the trophy and given to us. I don’t have to jump to celebrate. I do it quietly,”Mutebi said.

He attributed this success to his boys that he said have been together for a long time and now play as a team.

KCCA FC have now won their 13th Uganda Premier League title since 1976 when they first lifted the title and five times in the last seven years.

The Lugogo boys have previously won the league in 1976, 1977, 1981, 1983, 1985, 1991, 1997, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017
