Uganda’s state minister for Health ( General Duties), Sarah Achieng Opendi, has suggested that spending a lot of time reading the Bible can lead to non-communicable diseases.

The minister who also doubles as the Woman MP for Tororo was speaking at the launch of the Dhopadhola Bible at Busitema University’s Nagongera Campus.

Dhopadhola is a Luo language spoken by the Adhola people who live in Tororo District in eastern Uganda and make up eight percent of the country's total population.

In her speech, Ms Opendi discouraged Christians from concentrating on reading the Bible while ignoring other activities as this inactivity may lead to health-related challenges.

In his speech read by presidency minister Esther Mbayo, President Museveni said the launch was “paramount to the people of Tororo”.

At the same function, NRM electoral commission chairman Tanga Odoi refuted reports circulating on social media that he resigned from his job, saying he can’t resign when he is succeeding at his job.
