UNRA: Restoration works on new Jinja bridge to last three months

Featured

The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has announced that the recently opened Source of the Nile Bridge will undergo works to restore its asphalt surface from April 15 to July 10 this year.

This comes after the surface developed cracks for the second time in three months. The first cracks emerged in January this year.

But last week, new cracks developed on the asphalt layer which have forced the roads authority to take these measures.

In a statement issued on April 3, UNRA said the works will include adding water proofing material to the concrete surface so that it effectively bonds with the asphalt.

"Our contractor on the Source of the Nile Bridge (Zenitaka Corporation and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd.) will be undertaking restoration works on the pavement layer from April 15th to July 10th. Please see a public notice to this effect," the body noted.

According to the statement, motorists headed to Jinja will continue using the bridge while those headed from Jinja to Kampala will use the old Nalubaale bridge.

The 500-meter bridge was commissioned last year by President Museveni.
