Civil servants taken to Jinja, to be taught national anthem

In a bid to improve service delivery in government entities, over 200 officials from different ministries are undergoing a two weeks patriotism training at the Civil Service College in Jinja.

Presiding over the opening of the induction course, the permanent secretary in the ministry of Public Service, Catherine Bitarakwate, emphasised the need for public servants to observe a high standard of ethics at their work stations.

The civil servants drawn from eight ministries which include: Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Trade and Cooperatives, Health, Information, Communication Technology and National Guidance.

Others are from the ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Energy and Mineral Development, Local Government and the ministry of East African Community.

The participants shall undergo patriotism lessons including learning how to sing the national and East African anthems and work ethics.

Bitarakwate said this training is intended to inculcate the culture of patriotism and also orient government officials into key areas like public speaking and customer care.

She pointed out that some of the challenges facing public service which is affecting service delivery in different entities.

The permanent secretary told public servants to desist from alcoholism, drug abuse and other acts that taint the image of public service.
