Accident claims 5 lives in Kyenjojo

An accident in Bujumire village, Kyenjojo district has claimed five lives. The accident that occurred in Kyakatwire town council (Bujumire) on Saturday involved a boda boda cyclist and truck. The dead have been identified as the rider Erias Tumuhereza (28), Dinah Tindimutuna (85), and three of Tindimutuna's grandchildren; Caroline Kamusiime, Denis Muhangi and a third yet to be identified.

All five victims of the accident died on the spot when, according to eyewitnesses, the oncoming white Isuzu ELF truck UBA 474F (M/C REG No UET 738Q) strayed into the lane of the boda boda rider.

The overloaded boda boda Tumuhereza (Bajaj Boxer, red in colour, UET 738Q) failed to get of the truck's way in time. The 85-year-old's Tindimutuna's grandchildren are said to have ranged between ten and fifteen years of age.

The rider Tumuhereza hailed from Karokarungi village- Kikono in Kamwenge District. Tindimutuna came from Mugasani vill. Kakabara in Kyegegwa District.

The bodies of the deceased were transferred to Kyenjojo Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. Inquires into the accident continue as TAR 03/2019. Rwenzori West spokesperson Lydia Tumushabe confirmed the accident.

The driver of the truck is on the run.
