MPS: Summon Kutesa to explain "donation" before House

Featured

A section of legislators led by Lwemiyaga County legislator Theodore Ssekikubo have asked the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga to summon the embattled Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa before the August House personally for a defense over the alleged claims of receiving a bribe of 500,000 US dollars.

The fire spitting legislators believe that the statement made by the Attorney General William Byaruhanga on Thursday before Parliament was unsatisfactory and left more questions that need to be answered by the Minister himself.

During the launch of the State House anti – Corruption Unit headed by Lt. Col Edith Nakalema, President Museveni tasked the Attorney General William Byaruhanga to investigate the claims that the Foreign affairs Minister Sam Kutesa received a bride from some Chinese investors in New York City in America over a certain favor.

But reporting to Parliament on the progress of the investigations, the Attorney General informed legislators that the claims against the Minister for Foreign affairs Sam Kutesa are baseless as the money he received was just a donation.

The Attorney General’s investigation reports has however attracted serious criticisms by a section of legislators led by MP Theodore Ssekikubo who described the findings as cosmetic intended at just protecting the image of the Minister.

The mps now want the Speaker cause a summon to the Minister Sam Kutesa for a defense on the floor of Parliament.

The legislators also want an accountability of the 500,000 us dollars received by the Ministers.
