Orphans need special attention, says SOS chief

Sunday Ssebaggala

The Chief Exceutive Officer of  SOS international, Norbert Meder, has said there is growing need to offer more parental attention to orphans since most of them are more likely to achieve less in life than their counter parts with parents.

“We are just coming from our international civil society centre meeting in Berlin were the largest NGOs met and part of our decisions was joining forces with the six largest child funding organisations to make sure many more children succeed in life through providing more parental care especially in Africa” he said.

Meder made the remarks while addressing journalists during his visit with the secretary general of the Child Fund Alliance, Meg Gardinier to the S.O.S children’s home in Entebbe.

“We see children without parents care and those at risk of losing parental care due immigration, disease and also political environment that is unsupportive being less successful in life” he said.

The country Director SOS homes Uganda Olive Lumonya said there was need for non governmental Organisations to partner in a period were funds and donors are reducing in the country.

“The expectation that we have for this visit is a partnership between SOS and Child fund that has started from international level both of us are dealing with children and children issues and it’s an opportunity for us to do more” she said.
