VIDEO: State Drops Case Against Mzee Wumula Musician

The Buganda Road Court Grade one Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu has dropped charges against musician David Mugema and his producer Jonathan Muwanguzi.

This after the state prosecution led Abdul Salam Waiswa from Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) asked court to withdraw charges against Mugema and his producer Jonathan Muwanguzi.

Mugemba and Muwanguzi were accused of composing a song titled ‘’Mzee Wumula’’ that attacked the person and the age of President Yoweri Museveni.

While appearing before grade 1 magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu on April 13th, 2018, the prosecution prayed that court drops charges against the accused  as they have learned their lesson and they hope will not again compose songs that offend anyone.

Kamasanyu dropped the case but tasked the state to hand back equipment to the formerly accused confiscated at the time of their arrest.

Mugema and Muwanguzi, through their lawyer Abdullah Kiwanuka, have threatened to take legal action against the government.

Kiwanuka says his clients feel that court wasted their time.

Prosecution led by Abdul-Salaam Waiswa states that the two artists between the years 2015 and 2017 at Salaama road, Makindye division in Kampala district unlawfully and repeatedly composed, recorded, produced and electronically communicated through social media a song entitled " MzeeWumula" in which they attacked the person  and age of the President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni .

The song was released at the height of the debate on removing on removing presidential age limits and amendment of the land act.
