Police nets suspected thugs in Kira, Wakiso

Police yesterday arrested four suspected criminals: Umar Mirembe, Timothy Kamanzi, Brian Odoi and Denis Okoth who have allegedly been  terrorising the residents of Kira division and the surrounding areas.

Police confirmed the arrest of the four suspects who where found hiding in a bushy shrub with the help of their canine team.

The four are detained at Kireka police station under case file SD 02/04/03/2018 which was opened against them.

"Their arrest came after police was tipped off by a business man identified as John Walukaye who was attacked at his home gate in Namugongo by some of the suspects. They stole his phone, laptop and a million shillings," a police source told us.

"On questioning the four suspects, they admitted having been involved in the acts of robbery for a period of at least six months and noted that they were willing to cooperate with police in recovering the stolen property" the source said.

However the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire regarded the operation as one of the many efforts police is using to apprehend thugs and continue to crack down on the continuous wave of simple robberies by thugs pouncing on unsuspecting victims in front of their gates.

"Alert the nearby security personnel in case you see someone standing without a clear objective or when you sense someone following you while walking or driving",he said.
