The iron sheets that were confiscated are manufactured by Chinese company Yalin Uganda Company Limited that is located in Nakawa.
Jameson Ssewanyana, head of the Operation, said that the iron sheets were confiscated because they were of poor standard for the Ugandan market.
According to Ssewanyana, the iron sheets were seized because they are gauge 32 but were labeled as gauge 30. Ssewanyana said that the iron sheets were confiscated in an ongoing routine survey of building materials sold in the West Nile region. The survey began in Pakwach and will go as far as Adjumani.
According to UNBS, this is not the first time iron sheets from Yalin have not met the required standards. A few months ago the company was found with sub-standard iron sheets and asked to rectify the situation.
