Next Media to launch training academy

Next Media, the holding group for NBS TV, Nile Post,  Sanyuka TV and other digital products has announced plans to start a media training and excellence academy this year.

Addressing staff at on Wednesday morning, the Next Media CEO Kin Kariisa said that academy is part of the group’s efforts to transform the industry in the country and the East African region.

“We realised even other media houses need to benefit from our transformation because when the entire industry is demonised, we all go down,” Kariisa said on Tuesday.

According to Kariisa, the academy would not only benefit practicing journalists but also other students aspiring to excel in the journalism profession. The academy will train journalists how to excel in television, print, radio, production and other fields.

Joe Kigozi, the chief of strategy at Next Media described the academy as a game changing initiative in the media industry in the country and the region at large.

“Experience is not the ultimate thing but training is also crucial. The academy will provide opportunity for this,”Kigozi said.

On his part, Rama Mbago the chief operating officer of Next Media said with the academy, Next Media was now in position to dominate the industry.

At the same meeting, editorial changes were announced. John Baptist Imokola, the outgoing news manager will spearhead the training academy while Joyce Bagala was announced as the new news manager for NBS TV.
