Express, Vipers beaten as KCCA is held by novices

Former league champions Express FC’s woes are yet from over after suffering yet another defeat in the Azam Uganda Premier League on Tuesday evening.

The Red Eagles who are languishing in the relegation zone and had won only once in the last five games in the league prior to the game were punished by their former captain Willy Kavuma, only two minutes after kick off to give Soana FC the lead and the only goal in the game at Kavumba.

The goal by the midfielder was enough to silence the Wankulukuku based side who were a few years ago a force to reckon with in Ugandan football having won the Ugandan league twelve time, the last being in 2012 but are now languishing in the relegation zone.

Express troubles continued this season despite the sacking of tactician Douglas Bamweyana after a spell of poor results.

He was replaced by Shafick Bisaso but the situation has not yet stabilized.

At St.Mary’s stadium in Kitende, the woes for home side Vipers SC and Portuguese coach Miguel Da Costa proved to be far from over after being stunned by struggling URA FC .

Goals from Henry Kisekka (41) and Shafik Kagimu (46) were enough to sink the venoms at home for the visitors to break their unbeaten record at home in the Azam Uganda Premier League.

Milton Karisa had earlier in the fourth minute given Vipers the lead, but this was not enough to stop the tax collectors.

In Mbarara, new league entrants also dubbed as giant killers, Mbarara City, held KCCA to a goalless draw in another clash in the Azam Uganda Premier League on Tuesday.

The Lugogo based side went into Tuesday’s game with a hope to salvage their pride after losing maximum points over the weekend to Proline FC but this was not possible as they fired blanks against the Kakyeka team.

In other games, Police FC were beaten one nil by Jinja based BUL FC whereas in Entebbe, new league entrants Masavu FC were punished by the record league champions SC Villa by three goals to nil.

Goals from Bernard Muwanga in the 68th minute and Abel Eturude Abel (brace) were enough to send SC Villa flying high in the league.

SC Villa are now top of the Azam Uganda Premier League table on 28 points whereas KCCA jumped to second as Police dropped to third place, one similar points with the defending champions.

Army side UPDF FC are at the bottom of the 16 point log having collected only six points from 13 games whereas six time champions Express FC are third from bottom with only 11 points.
