In a heartbreaking incident on Christmas Day, two juveniles lost their lives while swimming in Lake Victoria at the Masese Landing Site in Jinja City.

The victims, part of a trio that arrived at 5:30 pm for an evening swim, met with a tragic fate as they ventured into deep waters.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the children's presence went unnoticed amidst the festive celebrations.

The sombre turn of events unfolded as one of the trio attempted to rescue a friend who had disappeared in the deep end.

Francis Magara, a local resident, expressed,"The three children came on a motorcycle, entered the waters, swimming. Because everyone was busy celebrating Christmas, we didn't notice that they went to the deep waters of the lake."

Local divers and the marine police swiftly initiated rescue efforts, successfully retrieving one body on Christmas day evening.

The second body was recovered today, intensifying the sorrow that hangs over Masese Landing Site.

In a poignant display of grief, bitter locals obstructed the police from transporting one of the bodies to the mortuary, insisting on handing it directly to the bereaved parents.
