UPL: SC Villa beats Express to win Kampala derby bragging rights

Record champions Sports Club Villa on Friday won bragging rights for the Kampala derby after beating Express FC, by a goal to nil in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at Wankulukuku.

It was an Ambrose Kirya header on the 71st-minute mark that proved the difference on the day during the Kampala derby.

Despite dominating play at Wankulukuku during a fairly attended game, SC Villa failed on many occasions to put the ball at the back of the net as their forwards struggled to make good out of the ball.

Emma Kalyowa and Bashir Mutanda all fell shot of doing the necessary at Wankulukuku despite having clear chances and it was the Jogoos’ former captain, Kirya who salvaged the gay for them.

With only 19 minutes to player, youngster Derrick Ndahiro crossed the ball that was well connected by Kirya to send the SC Villa fans who had come in big numbers into frenzy.

The hosts could have taken the lead further with a number of clear chances they got later but this was not possible.

Express FC on the other side also had its own share of chances on the enemy’s goal but they all went begging.

The win ensured SC Villa maintains grip on top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table with 10 points.
