Two die as Namirembe Guest house wall collapses

Two people died and others were injured when a wall that borders Namirembe Guest House collpased following a heavy downpour.

The wall collapsed at about 4:00pm.

The Uganda Red Cross spokesperson, Irene Nakasiita, confirmed the wall collapse and stated that the deaths still remain under two but couldn’t divulge any more details.

"Kaije coffee bar at Namirembe guest house collapsed following the heavy downpour," she said.

The minister for Security, Gen Elly Tumwine rushed to the scene to ensure those still trapped inside were rescued safely and alive.

Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango identified the dead as a man and woman who were on a date. They are Albert Nkabahita and Stella Jealobo. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the city mortuary.

He further asserted, "Namirembe Guest House has NOT collapsed. It's the wall adjacent to Kaije Cottages that collapsed."

The guest house is about 100 meters from the cathedral that just hours back was holding service for former prime minister Prof Apolo Nsibambi.
