MUASA, MASA, and NUEI whose leaders were suspended are now demanding for the removal of Thomas Tayebwa and Bruce Balaba Kabaasa from the University Council and allow Ruth Iteu to represent MASA in the university council. MUASA is Makerere University Academic Staff Association, MASA is Makerere Architecture Students Association and NUEI is the National Union of Educational Institutions of Uganda.

They want the reinstatement of the suspended association leaders , an end on attacks on the autonomy of staff associations and their leaders, facilitating the staff appeals tribunal and degazetting unconstitutional amendment of human resource manual.

The associations have come up with these six demands on the same day the University had asked all of them to return to class.

Last week on Friday while addressing the press, the Acting Vice Chancellor Eria Hisali assured the media that class would resume this Monday since all striking lecturers were to be dealt with individually by the human resource office.

While a committee of five was set up and given three weeks to investigate the circumstances that led to the suspension of Dr Deus Kamunyu the muasa chairperson.

But looks like the negotiations were in vain since the staff have maintained their strike and come up with more demands before returning to class.
