Ochola moves 49 traffic police commanders in new changes

The Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola has transferred Israel Wambesyo, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Police commander in new changes announced yesterday.

The changes which have led to transfer of 49 traffic police officers to various stations around the country have also seen Wambesyo moved to Ssezibwa region as the regional traffic officer whereas Superintendent of Police,Grace Kiberu moved from Ssezibwa to replace Wambesyo in Kampala.

In the changes Assistant Superintendent of Police Julius Luyima, who has been the officer in charge of traffic at the Central Police Station in Kampala was moved to Masindi as the officer in charge of traffic in the area.

Prior to his transfer, a number of drivers and motorcycle riders had complained about the conduct of Luyima, with allegations that he was asking for bribes before releasing their impounded vehicles.

He had been in charge of the increased number of operations against errant motorists in the city centre putting him in direct collision with offenders.

Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police, Zainab Kiwala has been transferred from the Human Resource Directorate to the Environmental Protection Police Unit whereas Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police Sarah Nalubega who has been in Kyegegwa has been transferred to police headquarters in Naguru.

ASP Elia Kamugisha has been transferred from Old Kampala to Bugiri and he has been replaced by ASP James Kagumaho.

The transfers take immediate effect.

This is part of the many changes made by Ochola since he took over as the Inspector General of Police in March.
