Museveni stings the West for imposing their cultures onto African countries

Featured

President Museveni has blamed the West for most conflicts in various parts of the world including the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

Speaking during this year’s Global Peace Conference at the Speke Resort Hotel in Munyonyo on Thursday, Museveni cited a number of ways in which the West has tried to impose themselves and cultures onto other people and some of them have led to conflicts.

“Intolerance is causing a number of problems.A good example is homosexuality when Europeans wanted that we should stand up and sound drum for it.They want to impose it on us,”Museveni said.

“You should respect everyone’s identity and should not impose your identity on other people.”

Museveni said that right from the 1880s , the West tried to impose a lot of things on Africans including influencing them to fight each other on the basis of religion(protestants against catholics) but noted that African resisted.

The furious Ugandan president cited examples of Iran and Democratic Republic of Congo where the West plotted to either overthrow or kill democratically elected Prime Minister and president, Muhammad Mossadegh and Patrice Lumumba respectively because they never liked them(leaders).

“In 1960, DR Congo organised elections and elected Patrice Lumumba but some people(West) didn’t like him and they organised for him to be killed but Congo has never had peace. They had also imported their culture here for our people to kill on behalf of God(religious wars) but Africans rejected it,”Museveni said.

He said that on many occasions, the West has tried to impose its culture and likes onto other people, most especially Africans and this, he said has led to many unending conflicts .

Blasts Africans

Museveni turned to Africans whom he blasted for being part of the problem for their continent by failing to deal with the problem of conflicts.

“It is not correct for Africa to remain weak and in turn this tempts the greedy people(West) to come and cause problems,”Museveni said.

“Lack of peace in Africa is caused by people who make themselves weak yet sitting on resources and end up tempting the greedy to come destabilise them.”

He urged Africans to unite in a bid to fight the common enemy.

Former Zanzibar president, Dr.Abeid Karume who is also the chairperson of the of the Africa Leadership Mission urged African leaders to find lasting solutions to problems affecting the continent, especially conflicts which have made it lag behind.

The Global Peace Leadership Conference was attended by regional and global experts under the theme ‘Moral and Innovative leadership; New Models for Sustainable Peace and Development.’
