A total of 18 out of the 40  people who were recently arrested by the army over the alleged murder of Case hospital accountant Francis Ekalungar have been released.

The army in a joint operation with JATT last week arrested boda boda 2010 chairman Abudallah Kitatta together with a number of the group's members from various parts of the city on  suspicion of participation in the murder of Ekalungar, who went missing on his way to the bank and body later discovered in Kajjansi, along Entebbe road.

Kitatta remains in detention.

According to the deputy army spokesperson, Lt.Col. Deo Akiiki, 18 of the suspects have been released on police bond.

"Twenty two  are still under custody to help in investigations,"Lt.Col.Akiiki said.

"They could be produced in courts of law during week days."

Last week, Kitatta's  s wife, Sumaya Ninsiima petitioned High Court requesting the state to produce him dead or alive. “I believe his detention is unlawful and unjustified thereby requiring the intervention of this court,”Ninsiima said  in her affidavit dated January 24 .

In the petition that has not yet been scheduled for hearing, Kitatta's wife also sued the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen.David Muhoozi and the Inspector General of Police, Gen.Kale Kayihura asking court to force them produce her husband.
