Museveni to visit Bukomansimbi as panga attacks on locals persist

President Yoweri Museveni is set to visit Bukomansimbi District following attacks by machete- wielding men on locals, leading to death of five residents including a retired senior police officer on New Year’s Day.

According to Linda Nabusayi, the presidential Press Secretary, the head of state who is also the commander in chief of the armed forces will visit the victims of the recent attack as well as assuring the residents of the security.

This website has also learnt that Museveni will condole with the families of the deceased , before addressing residents at a public meeting in Bukomansimbi.

Museveni’s visit comes a day after the Inspector General of Police,Gen.Kale Kayihura pitched camp in the area as part of the efforts to help fight the criminals as well as assuring the locals of their security.

“We shall do everything possible to apprehend the suspects,”Kayihura told locals on Tuesday before promising to increase security in the area through provision of motorcycles to be used by armed police officers while patrolling the area.

On the new year’s day, machete wielding thugs attacked villages including; Kisojjo, Kyabagoma and Kyamabaale in Kibinge Sub County in Bukomansimbi district and Kiryasaaka found in Kkingo Sub County in Lwengo district at night killing five people and injuring twelve others.

Last year, similar attacks characterised greater Masaka region districts of Kalungu,Masaka,Lwengo and Rakai and over 20 people were killed by assailants who first threw leaflets warning of their impending attacks before invading villages, stab and hack locals.

In his new year message to Ugandans, president Museveni assured them of security despite presence of a few challenges especially on the part of police .
