Another 3 Ugandan sportsmen vanish in Germany

Three rugby cranes players have vanished from camp in Germany, Ramzy Olinga, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has confirmed.

James Odong, Ramathan Govule and Brian Kikawa were part of the team that took part in the 2017 Oktoberfest 7s tournament in Munich last weekend.

Olinga said the three players went missing on Saturday night from the Hotel. "They left behind their passports with the team manager Mike Wandera and their belongs in the Hotel and just disappeared," said Olinga.

Uganda only managed to beat Chile in the tournament where they came 10th out of the 12 teams. The team handled by Tolbert Onyango fell to England, Argentina and hosts Germany in the group stage, before falling to Spain in a classification match.

Olinga said the passports of the three players were handled over to the Germany Police, while they will also write to the Ministry of Education and Sports to disappearance of the players.

The national team that returned on Monday will start training today ahead of the 2017 Africa 7s Championship slated for October 6-7 in Kampala.

The tournament which will attract 10 nations will also be used as qualifiers for World Cup and the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, three Ugandan boxers who participated in the recently concluded 2017 AIBA World Championships also disappeared in Hamburg, Germany in September.

The three boxers; David Ayiti, Geoffrey Kakeeto, and African welterweight champion Muzamiru Kakande, refused to return saying they had gotten an opportunity to better their lives.
